Auto company misled more than a million customers in the U.S. and Canada have lowered fuel consumption data.
Hyundai and Kia said they were selling cars with incorrect estimates of fuel consumption and promised to pay compensation to customers and fix the problems. The Korean company said that the problems are the fault of "procedural error" in a joint test center. Inaccuracies were revealed as a result of the investigation the Environmental Protection Agency U.S. (EPA).
Problems affect about 35% of car models 2011-12 model years and sold by the end of October, approximately 900,000 vehicles, the company said. They apologized and promised to pay compensation to customers with special debit cards.
In general, the estimates differ from the actual one or two miles per gallon, but the estimate of fuel consumption on the highway Kia Soul differed by six miles.
