Fiat-Chrysler's Revised Product Plan Drops Chrysler and Dodge Models, Adds Alfas and Fiats


Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed on Wednesday, January 30, a revised version of the company's product plan for its seven of its mainstream brands in North America, including Chrysler, Jeep, RAM, Dodge, SRT, Fiat and Alfa Romeo.

Under the new schedule, the four small cars previously planned for Chrysler and Dodge, two for each brand, which would have been assembled by Fiat and be launched this year, are now dead.

Fiat-Chrysler CEO Marchionne Uses Racial Slur for New Alfa Romeo Engine


Alfa Romeo’s return to the U.S. market, which is supposed to revive the historic Italian brand that’s currently on life support, has been announced more times than we can recall, only to be postponed time and time again.

In our 2013 NAIAS review we wrote that, compared to GM and Ford, not to mention foreign carmakers, the Fiat-Chrysler Group presence was underwhelming and we were wondering where Alfa Romeo was.

Apparently, others were thinking along the same line so they questioned the group’s CEO about it. Sergio Marchionne replied that he won’t be bringing the brand to the U.S. until the –long overdue- 159 mid-size sedan replacement, aka the Giulia, is perfect.

NAIAS 2013: Chrysler 300S Turbine Edition Pays Homage to 1963 Concept [Live Photos]


The Chrysler Group has prepared a new special edition version of the 300S sedan designed to commemorate the 50th anniversary from the presentation of its iconic 1963 Turbine concept car.

Set to be take the stage alongside the new 2013 Chrysler 300 Motown Edition at the Detroit motor show, the special edition model pays homage to the original turbine-powered study with a "Turbine Bronze" matte-finished exterior paint and Gloss Black painted roof.

First SRT Viper Rolls Off the Assembly Line, Owner Paid $300,000 for it [w/Video]


Thursday, January 10, was a historic day for Chrysler as the first SRT Viper rolled off the production line at the Conner Avenue Assembly plant and was handed over to his owner, Scot Thomas, by Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne.

Thomas was the winning bidder for the #001 Viper at last year’s Barrett-Jackson auction. The 40-year old, who lives in Oklahoma, is the president of the APMEX precious metals company and paid US$300,000 for the car, the proceeds going to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for pediatric cancer research.

GM Surpasses Ford in Government Sales for the First Time Since the 2009 Bailout


Hard as it may try to put to rest the “Government Motors” moniker its opponents have coined since the 2009 bailout, General Motors will probably have to deal with it again.

This time the reason is the data published by the General Services Administration (GSA), which show that GM surpassed Ford in federal government sales for the first time since the bailout.

The U.S. government purchased 19,404 vehicles from GM in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2012, which accounts for a 3.6 percent increase compared to 2011.
